So black, white and a pop of color is the challenge for this week. And immediately I thought of a comic strip. I've always been a fan of comic strips and Calvin and Hobbs in particular. Most of the books include black and white strips as well as color. So I used my Fiskars trimmer to cut a black card base.
Then I took out my Lawn Fawn stitched square stackables and used my cuttlebug to cut out four of the stitched squares.
Next, I needed to choose a character. I knew I needed to put different faces on the character so I needed one that faces would easily fit on. I came across the crayon from the Lawn Fawn color my world stamp set and decided that it would be perfect!
Then for the faces I decided to use the Lawn Fawn donut worry stamps.
So by now I pretty much had my idea down. A sad gray crayon who wanted to be colorful like the other crayons. So of course I needed a fairy to change the color of the crayon. That's where the Lawn Fawn fairy friends and dies came in.
So I got out all my stamps, my acrylic block and my memento ink pad and started stamping away!!!
And now for the fun part, adding the color!!! I got out my Zig brush markers. Love these!!! They are a little on the pricey side but worth it!
I used these colors for the crayon.
And these for the fairy and wand.
And now we are ready to cut out the comic strip characters for the card. So this is one of my new favorite things!!! Its a magnetic cutting plate for the cuttlebug!!! That's right no more washi to place your dies perfectly. And the price is right at about $20 or it was when I bought it. So the instructions you get with the plate were not the best way to utilize the plate. I found that the best way to use it is: A plate, magnetic plate, B plate, paper, dies, b plate.
And now my comic strip characters are ready to go!!!
So next placement. I had to decide how I wanted the crayon to be placed in my strip and the fairy too. I got all my pieces together and quickly realized that I needed another fairy. So I made one real quick and got back to work. To attach the fairies I used the pop dots, and for the stitched squares and the crayons I used miracle tape.
To attach the wands to the fairies I used my Tombo liquid adhesive.
These are my go to adhesives for all my card making and scrapbook activities. The only other thing I use is foam tape when required. Next I needed to do my sentiment. I selected two of the new Lawn Fawn mini pigment ink pads.
I decided to layer the two colors together, slightly offset, to bring together the idea of the old crayon and new crayon color. The sentiment came from the Lawn Fawn critters ever after stamp set.
I forgot to mention I used a wink of Stella clear pen to make the fairy dust and to make the crayon sparkle as it was changing. After I attached the sentiment with pop dots I had this card:
