Have a Wild Birthday

Hello and welcome to my blog!  Today I am showing you a tutorial of a card I made for my older daughter's birthday.  She loves elephants so much, always has.  So when my good friend Barb showed up to our monthly crop at Scrappin in the City with the hero arts June card kit stamps and dies (that I have been wanting) I asked her if I could borrow it and cut a few of the shapes out with her dies.  She of course was only too happy to oblige.  And because I had not brought any of my cardmaking supplies, I'm trying to catch up on scrapbooking, she let me use her cardstock too!!!  Barb you are the best, thanks again!!!
So I cut out the elephant and tree from black cardstock and the sun on white cardstock with Barb's cuddlebug and took them home.  It took a week and a day but I finally got around to working with them yesterday.  So first I wanted to color the sun.  I got out my newer set of colorburst, my craft mat, water pen and some paper to test on.  I was not totally sure what colors I wanted to use yet so I picked three to start with and test out together.
I really like the orange and yellow together but not the other color.  So next tested out all the colors to see what direction I wanted to go in.
I mean look at those colors!!!  They are so beautiful and this is on regular cardstock folks!!!  Not watercolor paper!!!  Ultimately i decided to go with the yellow, orange and sepia in that order.
So the strategy I used was to put a tiny but of colorburst on my mat and above it a clean bead of water from my water pen.  Then I put a tiny bit of the yellow powder on my water pen and added it to the bead of water.  The powder totally filled the bead and I used that to color my sun.  Then I added more powder as needed until I had the top of all three suns colored.  Then I followed the same process with the other two colors being sure to overlap a little at the start of the new color.  The key with colorburst is not to use too much powder.  A tiny bit goes a long way!!!
That's just an idea of how little I used.  And I accidentally leaned a little trick when I was coloring my suns!  I always love happy accidents!  My first sun did not turn out the way I wanted it to so I turned it over to try again.  When they dried I realized that the part of the sun where I had colored both front and back did not curl like paper usually does after being wet on just one side!  So just a little hint for next time you are using your water brush put a little water on the other side of your paper too.  Just not to much to avoid tearing.
Ok so now I needed to cut mt background.  I really wanted my sun to be the main focus of the card so I chose black cardstock for my background.  I trimmed the cardstock to size with my Fiskars trimmer.  Than I glued my sun to the card using Tombo aqua liquid adhesive.  Then I played with the placement of the elephant and the tree for a while until I was happy with how it looked.  I glued the tree down with the Tombo adhesive too and then used pop dots to glue down the elephant for some dimension.

Now it was time for my sentiment.  I used one from the Lawn Fawn wild about you stamp set.  I used Hero Arts white ink stamp pad and my large acrylic stamp block.

When I was done I wiped my stamps with my shammie and used miracle tape to attach my card to an A2 card base.
