Oh, The Places You'll Go!

So, as you know I have not posted on the blog for a while!  I've been so busy trying hard to get a new business up and running.  It has taken so much more time than I thought it would.  So I'm back and have a resolution to create something new every day.  Some will be worth sharing and some will not.  But the worthy content I will be sharing here.  So my first 2018 post is a card I made for the card swap I am a member of.  If you are in the swap with me then you get a preview.  In our card swap we draw sticks to decide what kind of card we will make for swap.  We drew square card, ribbon, congratulation themed and with an optional stick for using a stencil.  This is the card I made:

I had purchased the stencil from Hero Arts at my local boutique scrapbook store, Scrappin in the City,  and was excited to use it.  I decided to use the stencil to emboss the image.  I used my versa mark embossing ink pad and some black embossing powder.  Then I used the sentiment from the Lawn Fawn stamp set flamingo together.  I also used the Lawn Fawn small stitched circle stackables and the scripty words congrats die.  I hope you enjoyed his card.  Come back soon for another project!

Button Birthday

Hello and welcome to my blog!  Today I'm going to give you a tutorial on a card I made for birthdays and for my card swap.  I'm lucky to be an a card swap with a lot of talented women!  So I used this card for the swap and my birthdays for the month too.

Again on the theme of using all those 6x6 pads I've accrued over the years this card will do that for you or help use up scraps you have too.  First I cut some craft paper to the size of my A2 card using my Fiskars trimmer.  Next I cut some more craft strips for my banner.  Then I selected a 6x6 paper pad.  I picked out several pages and cut each into one inch strips.

When I was done with all of that I attached the one inch paper strips to my kraft paper using miracle tape.  I used my Tim Holtz scissors to trim off the excess paper to fit the piece of kraft paper.

Next I used the trick from my very clever friend Margret about how to make any strip of paper into a banner.  For this card I only wanted the tail on one side of the banner.  First you eyeball the center of the banner and make a cut.

Then you cut from one edge to the center.

Do the same on the other edge and you have a nice looking tail.    

After I was done making my banners it was time to distress the edges of my banners and my cards.  I got out my craft mat, distress ink and blender tool.  I used my blender by getting the ink on it and then rubbing it on my craft mat to blend it in well before applying it to my cards and banners.  This step keeps the tool blending evenly on the surfaces.

Then it was time to stamp happy birthday onto my banner for the birthday cards.  For card swap we leave the sentiment blank so it can be used for any occasion.  I got out my memento ink, acrylic block, shammie and my lawn fawn year two stamps.  I stamped my image and cleaned off the stamp with my shammie.

I knew I wanted to use some bakers twine on the card but I was not sure what else and I was stumped so I turned to my friend Barb.  She suggested a button and it made the card!!!  Thanks again Barb!  I tied the button on with the bakers twine and then attached the banner to the card and the card to the base with miracle tape.
